Mica Mahani is a Bega based artist and creative arts facilitator with a focus on social justice and the environment. Born and raised in the Bega Valley, she has been making art in various forms since she was a child, with early roots in the Candelo Arts Society, later years in the fringe arts scene in Canberra, as well as training and performing in various locations nationally and abroad.

Mica’s practice is centred on movement and performance, but also extends to visual arts, textiles, and drama. Her projects tend to encourage participation over perfection and engage many unlikely performers to create unique and memorable works. Her work is based on needs as perceived for herself, community, and planet, often in collaboration with other artists and community groups.

Her Project Alchemy experience has seen her develop four major projects:

·         Princesses of Planting - is a theatre/regeneration experience, where community is invited to practice landcare, dress in cosplay and dance.

·         Eclipse - a collaboration with Lee Nickless (East Gippsland) engaging artists and young people from East Gippsland to create costume and roving performance for the Lakes Lights event at East Gippsland Winter Festival.

·         The Children of Destiny Saga - a collaboration with Tamlyn Magee (Bega). This community theatre project was performed at Candelo Festival 2023 and has a new instalment in development for the March 24 rally for native forests.

·         The Lichen Project - A collaboration with Louise Morris (Tanja) and Tamlyn Magee (Bega), this project is exploration of Lichen as a costume medium and catalyst for creation - living, beautiful and ephemeral.
