Cecile’s Project Alchemy community engagement activity included a series of “Wonder Walks” in the Braidwood and Shoalhaven River district. These walks took participants into landscapes that had been fire threatened and impacted. The resilience and regeneration of the bush inspired and fed conversations of hope and questions around sustainable land-use practices and climate changes.
A graduate from the ANU, Cecile’s primary medium is printmaking. In the Alchemy exhibition she has made a 20-metre string of prayer flags as a homage to the forests that were destroyed during the 2019/20 bushfires.
The Shoalhaven River and surrounds remains and constant theme and source of information for Cecile's art practice. Over the decades she has facilitated field trips for artists, teaching and mentoring and delivering education programmes.

Kim Mahood drawing workshop in Braidwood

This is a unique experience to learn from Kim Mahood, an accomplished landscape artist and writer.
Mahood, based in Wamboin, NSW, spends several months each year working with Indigenous people in remote Australia. Her art practice explores the interface between Aboriginal and western representations of landscape/country, and includes collaborations with the Walmajarri painter Veronica Lulu, and artist/photographer the late Pamela Lofts. She is represented in state, territory and regional collections.
She is the author of three books, Position Doubtful, Craft for a Dry Lake and Wandering with Intent, and her essays have been published in art, literary and public affairs journals.
Kim Mahood held two highly successful solo exhibition at Studio Altenburg Braidwood in 2021 & 2023.
This drawing workshop with Kim Mahood will focus on the formal principles of landscape drawing with the location site in the Braidwood area TBA. Participants to bring own materials, medium of choice plus charcoal.
There are limited places available and suggest that people keen to learn from Kim book early.
